The 8-minute-long track is the first official release of the artist to use binaural technology, with which she has been experimenting in concerts and videos since 2019.
The piece is one of the many compositions of Carolina that started out as an improvisation, but unlike many of her pieces – and much of the music performed on the theremin – Northern Lights has an unusual brightness and optimistic atmosphere. She adds “It’s in a major key and sounds very soothing… I hope this music brings a bit of colour and light to the dark winter days that are to come”.
